‘A GARDEN PARTY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE’ – 11 SEPTEMBER

Dates Announced for:
JOOLS HOLLAND, ROLF HARRIS AND ECLECTIC MIX OF MUSICIANS

BEN ELTON AND ALISTAIR McGOWAN JOIN GARDEN PARTY

Emma Watson’s Spring/Summer 2011 fashion collection will be launched by People Tree, the British fair trade clothing company, at The Prince of Wales’ 12-day ‘eco festival’, A Garden Party To Make A Difference. The fashion show will take place on Saturday 11 September at 3.30pm and will be held in the historic Friary Court, of St. James’s Palace, below The Proclamation Balcony  – the place where the new sovereign is declared and heralded in public for the first time after ascending to the throne.

It was also announced todayAdd an event for today that comedians Ben Elton and Alistair McGowan will both be performing at the Garden Party, with further names to be confirmed over the coming days.

Ben Elton said, “I was thrilled that The Prince of Wales has broadened his recycling efforts to include old comics and invited me to take part in A Garden Party To Make a Difference. It’s such a great idea, have a terrific time while picking up a few hints on leading a more sustainable life. A party where you feel better at the end than you did at the start! How good is that? I haven’t been to one of those since I was thirteen.”

Jools Holland will perform in the specially created auditorium in Friary Court under The Proclamation Balcony on Friday 10 September. This intimate space will see Jools Holland on piano accompanied by Gilson Lavis on drums and Dave Swift on Bass with guest vocalists Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall. It was announced on 1 June that Jools Holland would curate a music programme for A Garden Party to Make A Difference and in true Jools Holland style, the result is truly eclectic, from the legendary Rolf Harris (9 September) and boogie woogie / rock ‘n’ roll pianist Ben Waters (12 September) to some of London’s best buskers and saw-player Henry Dagg creator of the pin-barrell harp and who most recently played the saw with Keane.

With a strong interest in Fair Trade and organic fashion but frustrated at the lack of clothing aimed at people her age Emma Watson decided to work with People Tree, founded by Saifia Minney in 1991, and created her first collection last year.  Whilst unable to attend the event in person, Emma Watson will introduce the show via a video message. She explained about the ‘royal’ fashion show: “I’m so thrilled that People Tree will be showing the spring summer collection at A Garden Party to Make a Difference. I think The Prince of Wales’ initiative is such a brilliant idea and I’m thrilled”
