Nick Garrie – The Nightmare of J.B Stanislas

| On 04, Oct 2010

‘The Nightmare of J.B Stanislas’, is a reissue from Nick Garrie. It has been referred to as one of the ‘lost’ albums of the 1960s, and is a sweet reminder of the psychedelic days and months which made up the iconic era which was the 1960s.

The album opener was the namesake of the album; The Nightmareof J.B Stanislas. Instantly setting the scene, it took me to the stereotyped cityscapes of the 1960s, and allowed me to experience a small part of the era of my parents. The third track ‘Bungles Tours’, was a pleasure on the ears but also tickled my funny bone, with its amusing light hearted lyrics. The following track; David’s Prayer, was genius, not on did it add depth to the album but it also reflected the era and highlighted  Garrie’s ability of versatility.

‘The Wanderer’ the sixth track on the album, was a reflection and insight to Garrie himself, who spent a majority of the late sixties wandering the South of France. The ninth track on the album; ‘Deeper Tones of Blues’ was a stunning piece of baroque-pop, it was gorgeous, heartfelt and warmed up my heart. The next track ‘Queen of Queens’ was a surprising but welcomed piece of folk-pop, which made me think of the classic country kings; Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, again displaying Garrie’s ability to be versatile with his style of music. The final track; ‘Evening’ was a fitting ending to a lovely album.
