FINAL MAGIC CHAIRS UK TOUR FOR EFTERKLANG

The last three years have been a hugely busy time for the Copenhagen act. Since the 2007 release of second album Parades (via The Leaf Label), the band have toured non-stop and yet somehow found time to write, record and release the follow-up Magic Chairs this year through their new label 4AD (“A miraculous conservatoire pop opus.” MOJO ****).

Over those three years, the band has played more than 320 concerts in over 30 countries across North America, Europe and China. Six of those shows have been Performing Parades performances where Efterklang collaborated with classical orchestras like The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, The Danish National Chamber Orchestra, Metropole Orkest and Britten Sinfonia to perform Parades in its entirety. Efterklang also found time to release two free live EPs as SlaraffenKLANG, a side project the band shares with their friends from the Danish band Slaraffenland.

Efterklang have announced they will return to the live arena in 2011 and will visit the UK in February, their final tour for this album campaign and the last shows they will play for the foreseeable future as the band take a well-earned break before starting work on what will be their fourth studio album.

Efterklang are also on tour this fall and will stop by Liverpool for the LIverpool Music Week on November 7th. All dates can be seen at their website: www.efterklang.net/home/concerts

EFTERKIDS

Never one to rest on their laurels, Efterklang have also launched Efterkids, a charitable initiative attempting to raise awareness of the need for music education in schools whilst also collaborating with talented children across the globe. None of the band are classically trained and had it not been for the encouragement of music teachers at their local schools it is unlikely they would be in the position they find themselves in today. As a result, the band felt compelled to get directly involved and give something back, and so Efterkids was born.

Earlier this year, the first Efterkids project took place as Efterklang worked with six talented string-playing kids from the Special Music School (P.S. 859) in New York to perform two songs ‘Full Moon’ and ‘Natural Tune’ (from Magic Chairs). The results can be viewed at www.efterkids.com. Efterklang is attempting to raise funds for musical equipment for the school and those that wish to support the Special Music School project can donate money via the Efterkids site.

There are plans for more Efterkids projects to take place and any students and teachers who wish to get involved can find course material (scores, MP3s) for ‘Natural Tune’ and ‘Full Moon’ on www.efterkids.com
