The Narcoleptic Dancers – Not Evident

| On 07, Nov 2010

Hailing from France and the Netherlands, Anton Louis Jr and Melody Van Kappers play soft, cutesy acoustic folk ditties as The Narcoleptic Dancers. With husky cooing vocals as haunting as Sol Seppy’s, Melody’s sweet yet eerie vocals punctuate Anton’s sparse percussive taps and shimmers on this hauntingly infectious release.

The French-Dutch duo relationship is shrouded in mystery, apparently naming the band after the nickname of their famous footballer father the two may or may not be brother or sister. Either way their hazy, electro tinged folk melodies are kooky and ever so slightly twee, especially in the demo for ‘Rastakraut.’ ‘Unique Tree’ is an absolute highlight that suggests a serious talent brewing beneath the surface, as its beautifully soft concoction of rattles, tambourines keys and handclaps filter through timid vocals tinged with nostalgia and a childlike innocence.
