The Lysergic Suite – Ghosts On Crusade EP

| On 09, Nov 2010

One of the most amazing things I listened to this year comes from Leicester based The Lysergic Suite. You might have heard of them thanks to the collaboration with Kasabian’s Tom Meighan, who lends his vocals on the title track Ghosts On Crusade.

From the first notes of this epic tune it is clear even to the casual listener that this trio has got something many lack of nowadays: original, psychedelic sound, guts to perform what they feel is quality music rather than just following the scene.

Ghosts on Crusade is a psychedelic, electro trip which introduces us to the complex musical architecture and genius of the trio. Forget Meighan, all the focus here is on the complexity of the musical journey.

In The Morning introduces Gren Spencer vocal abilities and does not fail to impress. Sharp, cold yet enchanting, let the words and obsessive beat take you by the hand and get lost in this marvellous track.

Earth and Water is another gem, a Pink Floyd-esque track, soaked in distorsions, beats and bass, freaking, paranoid disconnected words and sharp vocals. Before you know it you find yourself hooked up to the guitar riff – you’re tripping now, and you love it.

Closing track is Seven Gram: a Pink Floyd meets a soft version of My Bloody Valentine, with touches of old school Italian prog, this instrumental gem should be featured in a great movie and become a classic.

Through the notes of Seven Gram my journey ends: I don’t know how they do it, but what they do is magic, pure genius. Make sure you buy the EP and catch them live as soon as you can.
