Flaming Lips, Suicide & more for Primavera Sound 2011

| On 15, Nov 2010

In the new batch of confirmations there are some names that are essential to the understanding of music and its evolution over this last decade, as well as some pillars of the history of music of the last forty years. All of them are outstanding.

The proto electronic music of the New York seminal duo Suicide, the former Velvet Underground member John Cale (with his performance When Past & Future Collide: John Cale & Band + Orchestra perform PARIS 1919 live) and Swans, Michael Gira’s re-formed band will also be in the Parc del Fòrum next May.

When talking about the present day we have to mention Animal Collective, possibly the most influential bands of this decade and authors of tracks like “Strawberry Jam” and the more recent “Merriweather Post Pavilion”. The National are at their best right now and with the release of their brilliant album “High Violet”, they will be another highlight of this new edition. Another band that has grown popular and also been acclaimed  by the critics is Fleet Foxes, who will present their new album at the festival.

Two bands from Glasgow, who have contributed in very different ways to making the city a Mecca of alternative music, will join us: Belle & Sebastian with their pop and the robust rock of Mogwai.

But the list of dazzling names does not end here. But the list of dazzling names does not end here. The wild show of the veteran American band The Flaming Lips will also land in Barcelona as well as a concert by the influential Mercury Rev, who will perform the album Deserter’s Songs in its entirety. Jonathan Donahue‘s band will perform both in the Auditorium of the Parc del Fòrum and at the Poble Espanyol site on Sunday the 29th during the closing party.
