Sad Day For Puppets Unveil Single & Tour Dates

| On 04, Jan 2011

Swedish indie five-piece Sad Day For Puppets release their new single, ‘Sorrow, Sorrow’, via Sonic Cathedral Recordings on February 7. It will be available from all major download retailers.

‘Sorrow, Sorrow’ is the beautiful opening track from the Stockholm-based band’s second album, ‘Pale Silver & Shiny Gold’. Somewhat appropriately for this time of year, it features the glorious harmonies of singer Anna Eklund and her kid sister Annika recounting a tale of trying (and failing) to keep misery (seasonal affective disorder?) at bay over guitars that chime and fuzz like some long-lost mid-’90s classic from Fort Apache Studios. It is backed with a brand new re-recording of the equally harmonious and heartbreaking early single ‘Big Waves’, which sounds a little bit like Lush playing an Everly Brothers song.

‘Pale Silver & Shiny Gold’ was released to great acclaim in September 2010. It received a glowing, four-star review in Uncut, while NME gave it 7/10 and said how the band “mix the idyllic with the ramped-up reverb” on their “not-so-difficult second album”. In Grazia, Lauren Laverne observed how Swedes seem to have an innate talent for making perfect pop, concluding that “‘Pale Silver & Shiny Gold’ is even better than their debut – I love it. I’m so pissed off, Sweden, can’t you try to make it look hard?”
