MOMO AND ENCHANTED TUNES PRESENT
FREDY MASSAMBA PERFORMING LIVE DOWNSTAIRS AT MOMO
JANUARY 2010 – Live at Momo returns with a brand new line up for 2011 and is proud to announce a very special performance by Fredy Massamba on Tuesday January 25th. Inspired by the likes of Mos Def and The Roots, Fredy fuses both traditional and modern sounds with ancestral pygmy songs and sounds from the forest.
Presented by Enchanted Tunes every Tuesday, Live at Momo showcases the most innovative live acts from all over the world bringing new and established talent to legendary hang out Downstairs at Momo. Live at Momo has become a famous musical rendez-vous in London, having hosted UK debuts by the likes of Seu Jorge, Amadou & Mariam, Mariza, Konono N*1, Tinariwen, Mahmoud Ahmed, Jose James, Hindi Zahra and Fat Freddy’s Drop.
Born in Brazzaville in the Congo Fredy Massamba started singing in local choirs before joining the established big band Les Tambours de Brazza. After leaving Africa he settled in Belgium where he teamed up with Zap Mama and began a journey to bridge the gap between European and African music. He then went on to work with West African rapper Didier Awadi before releasing his debut solo album ‘Ethnophony’ which was recorded in Awadi’s studio in Dakar and mixed in NYC by Tom Soares who has perviously worked with Erykah Badu. His first project offers listeners a smooth blend of hip hop, funk and African chants. His gig at Momo is his first London show !
Doors open at 7pm, live performance at 9pm.
