The Palpitations return with free download of ‘Shirley Valentine’

| On 26, Jan 2011

It’s been just over a year since South London’s Warhol upstarts The Palpitations sneaked out their debut single ‘Tears in the Rain’. During the time of their enforced hiatus due to university commitments, it bedded down and infected all those who came near to it leaving the initiated hanging on for more.

The wait is now finally over as Danielle, Davey, Nicolas and William announce their follow up release, ‘Milk It’ backed with ‘Love Is True (That’s Why It Hurts)’ through CLUB.THE.MAMMOTH. (in association with Too Pure) on Valentines Day, 14th February 2011.

Formed in late 2008 The Palpitations convey something edgier and more developed than their peers. The confessional lyrics are awkward and bittersweet, underpinned by musical lullabies that veer from darkly melodic to epically euphoric. They do what Sonic Youth manage to do, namely meld a catchy melody to an experimental sound all the while building a song, making your heart beat faster (and faster), and they know how to finish them too. They’re in no way subtle about it, they want your heart to skip a beat!

Having already featured on Channel 4 and E4, Radio 2, championed by Andy Weatherall on BBC6 and Chris Martin formerly of NME radio, Fred Perry’s subculture website as well as Who’s Jack Magazine, they are a band on the rise. They have shared stages with the likes of British Sea PowerRamonaDoll & The Kicks and The Brute Chorus as well as label mates Islington Boys’ Club and Arrows of Love.

“The Palpitations produce a wall of sound that is evocative and powerful, music that snares and circles your brain like a wild animal hunting its prey… It’s direct, absorbing and irreducible” – Breaking More Waves

“Retro and Relevant The Palpitations drag the sound of ‘The Lower East Side’ into the 21st century, hooky style bass lines only serve to embellish the already potent sounds they deliver.” – Battery in Your Leg

To coincide with the vinyl release their track ‘Shirley Valentine’ is now available as a free download:
