Sophie Barker – Seagull

Seagull is the third album by Sophie Barker whose voice you may recognise from her collaborations with Groove Armada and Zero 7. Fans of Barkers previous work will not be disappointed with Seagull- a rather minimalistic, relaxing album with touches of acoustic, folk and soul.

Barker says that ‘Seagull’ is about being real, true and natural which is exactly the essence of the album. The lyrics are honest and the minimalist production allows Barkers airy vocals to really connect with the [...]

Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues

Let’s be frank from the beginning! Without Fleet Foxes’ first album we wouldn’t have witnessed the rise of this new wave of psych-indie-bucholic-folk that literally invaded the otherwise dull panorama of pop music. So, if you love bands such as Mumford and Sons, Bon Iver and Midlake, you (partly) owe it to these six guys from Seattle. If, on the other hand, you hate them, well, at least now you know whom to blame.

Fleet Foxes’ sophomore effort reflects the continuity [...]

Down The Machine – Losing Faith

Down the Machine are a four piece alternative rock band from Leeds signed to Ambion Records. Their single “Losing Faith” delivers everything that heavy rock fans will expect: it is loud, energetic, and sufficiently moody. What is unexpected about this song is the melodious, radio friendly chorus which in terms of catchiness could rival any pop song.

To the untrained ear, heavy rock bands can often sound like each instrument is competing for attention. However Down the Machine have managed to [...]

Richard Walters – Pacing

“Pacing” is the second album by Oxford born singer-songwriter Richard Walters. This album follows Walters’ critically acclaimed debut album ‘The Animal’ which was released in 2009. However in ‘Pacing’ we can hear a departure from the softer acoustic tones of Walters’ first album to a sound that is richer and more self-assured. ‘Pacing’ was co-written by Bernard Butler who has worked with many talented artists such as Duffy, Fyfe Dangerfield and The Libertines.  The collaboration with Butler has produced a [...]

Mamas Gun – On A String

‘On a String‘ is the new single from London based  five piece ‘Mamas Gun’, taken from there upcoming album ‘The Life and Soul’.

The three minute, forty-four second track is a lovely piece of soul funk, both upbeat and catchy making for a great summer sound as well as being nice little taster of what we should expect from the band’s upcoming album, ‘The Life and Soul’ out on the 6th of June 2011.

New video: Chapel Club ‘Blind’

Chapel Club

New video: ‘Blind

“London’s Chapel Club offer a slightly poppier take on the Jesus and Mary Chain/My Bloody Valentine-patented noise pop, and are able to unleash beautiful swirling guitar blasts…” The Guardian

Chapel Club follow their acclaimed debut album ’Palace’ and sold out UK tour with a new single on May 16th. ‘Blind’ is taken from the LP. For a band that made their name playing off-the-wall venues – including warehouses and artists’ living rooms – it’s a fitting nod to [...]

Late Night Tales: TRENTEMØLLER released 30th May 2011

TRENTEMØLLER
LateNightTales
LABEL: LATE NIGHT TALES
RELEASE DATE: 30TH MAY 2011

Imagine if The Cramps had been kidnapped by choral monks and taken hostage deep in the forests of the Ardeche and ordered to pray to God and a Roland 808 drum machine. Occasionally you encounter an artist for whom it’s not simply about [...]

Twin Atlantic Debut Album ‘Free’ out May 2nd On Red Bull Records

When Glasgow’s Twin Atlantic released their 2009 mini-album, Vivarium, it immediately found an awestruck audience. The reviews were uniformly ecstatic. Grand, sweeping and eloquent, it was a collection of songs with a heart and soul, crafted by passion and informed by staunch lyrical and musical frankness. It set Twin Atlantic on a rollercoaster – one that has led, now, to the release of their full debut, Free, on Red Bull Records, an inspiring collection of songs full of ambition, pain, belief and [...]

Beth Jeans Houghton is back, with details of a new track, ‘Dodecahedron,’ and her debut album on Mute. But, where’s she been?

“I’m going to utilise the ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’ line and leave it at that,” says Newcastle born Houghton, still only 21. “I spent a [...]
