The Voluntary Butler Scheme – The Chevreul EP

A short and snappy blast of left-field electronic music, The Chevreul is just weird enough to be original, without coming across as self-consciously quirky for the sake of quirk. For the most part, the tracks are comprised mainly of voice samples interspersed with playful experiments with sound. Do the hand Give and To the Height of a Frisbee do stray away from this formula though, particularly the latter – the closest thing to a conventional track on here, featuring a real life chorus and everything! Wow. Can you handle it? It may seem a bit random but actually comes as an enjoyable surprise finale. Yes it’s probably an acquired taste, but it deserves to be tried out at least once. The inclusion of a particularly hyperactive remix of Do the hand Give is a nice addition, too.
