X-Ray Spex’s Poly Styrene died from Breast Cancer 25/04/2011 She was 53 years old. The British-born singer born Marian Joan Elliott-Said was an inimitable voice in the first-generation London punk scene. Her influence on women’s roles in rock music as well as Black and ethnic minorities was profound. X Ray Spex  formed in 1976 and  released five singles plus one album. Their first single, “Oh Bondage, Up Yours!”, is now acknowledged as a classic punk rock single. The Oft misinterpreted “Oh Bondage, Up Yours!”, confronts sexual and racial inequality and its sentiment is still more relevant than ever.

In 1991 X-Ray Spex reformed for a surprise sell-out gig at the Brixton Academy The group reformed again in 1995 to release a new album Conscious Consumer. Original guitarist Jak Airport (Jack Stafford) died on 13 August 2004 of cancer. The group reformed once more in front of an audience of 3,000 at The Roundhouse in London on 6 September 2008. They performed Germ Free Adolescentsin its entirety, with the exception of “Plastic Bag”.

This very special Event will be held at The Alley Cat Club the basement of the  former Regents sound studios where the likes of The Stones, The Kinks and Hendrix laid down tracks. Goldmine Events organise  innovative events in Central London. Highlights have so far included the first official Libertines reunion in May 2009, intimate performances with Little Dragon, The Beat and Seasick Steve.

With Live bands, Djs and Projections Germ Free Adolescents looks set to be a raucous evening that we hope will honour the memory of a truly Talented, Original and fearless performer Poly Styrene .
