Scarlett Etienne – Figurine

| On 15, May 2011

Is it fair for one person to be perfect in every way he or she desires? Scarlett Etienne is perfection personified: so beautiful that she’s a fashion model (constantly dressed up by designer Matthew Williamson), so business savvy that she runs her own label, and so talented that her DJ skills found her a champion in Sasha. Oh, and she can also play the piano and guitar rather well, allowing her to just break out in live synth-pop whenever the occasion calls for it.

Her two new tracks – ‘Figurine’ and ‘Techno Cygnets’ – follow the release of her well-received EP ‘Sequin Burn/Careless Alchemy,’ and see Scarlett Etienne pursuing a more techno-orientated sound. ‘Figurine’ has a clean and crisp industrial sound – particular with regards to the drums – with a pulsating, distorted bassline underlying the synth loops. It all builds to a heavy, but glorious, electro breakdown reminiscent of Justice. ‘Techno Cygnets’ is a more timid offering – layered and atmospheric techno that weaves through different tones, with electro interludes to keep the listener on their feet. This is accessible electro-techno in the vein of the latest offerings from Simian Mobile Disco. This is perfect commercial club music. This is because Scarlett Etienne is perfect.
