LATEST IN HOUSE RELEASES

MONDAY 20TH JUNE 2011

ALBUM
BLANCK MASS – ‘Blanck Mass’ (Rock Action)
‘Blanck Mass’ is the debut solo album from Benjamin John Power, one half of acclaimed noise terrorists Fuck Buttons. The ten tracks make up something of a concept album on the subject of cerebral hypoxia, the clever-clogs term for when not enough oxygen gets to the brain. Fans of Fuck Buttons’s classics like ‘Olympians’ will find much here to appreciate, but while Fuck Buttons stuff soars to anthemic, euphoric drones, Ben’s Blanck Mass material is far more patient, nuanced and subtle. As well as being inspired by cerebral hypoxia, Ben’s also taken influence from the natural world and has mooted a future in soundtracking nature wildlife documentaries. Recorded in Ben’s London flat last year and released on Mogwai’s Rock Action label.

ALBUM
DRIVER DRIVE FASTER – ‘Open House’ (aA Recordings)
One of the most talked about new bands in Manchester, Driver Drive Faster release their masterful debut album: a rich, timeworn sound that exists somewhere between Americana and spectral indie rock. It’s crafted song-writing at its best, hinging on stirring chord sequences and moments of fragile beauty. Think Mercury Rev’s Deserter’s Songs for a new generation! Taking their name from the first line in WH Auden’s poem Calypso, in which he’s running late to meet his lover, Driver Drive Faster formed in Manchester and have, in their short career, supported The Aliens, The Phantom Band, Darwin Deez, Japandroids and more.
