Cosmo Jarvis – Sure As Hell Not Jesus

| On 30, May 2011

Realeasing the new EP Sure as hell not Jesus, Cosmo Jarvis confirms his fame as eclectic artist and multi-style. Nevertheless he’s working only on the second album he reached an uncommon songwriter maturity for a so young guy.

Sure as hell not Jesus , the first self-titled track is a beautiful union between a beatlesesque pop and a dylanesque folk soul,  inheriting the great energy and catchiness on a side, and the sensitivity and a social vein on the other one, with a final guitar riff as hot as hell.

What’s Wrong With Betty is introduced by an organ intro worthy of a metal band, then turns into a 60s- 70s groove accompanied by astonishing Hammond solos, giving the tune a lounge atmosphere in a swinging London style.

Road Closed is the typical song to draw breath, it’s very poppy embellished by melancholic choirs and a slide guitar. Cosmo describes the song “about those moments when a person wonders if the possibility of their principles letting them down is enough reason to not go on taking heed of them or if, judging by the amount of previous successes that have derived from those principles, it may be better to”. Also he shows that he can sing not only with an energy that sometimes keeps close to anger, but he can be sweet and soulful .

Why Do Angels Make Me Cry is the final track of this remarkable EP, in a reggae style, he comes back to his first love, but adding a rock inspiration, as the guitar solo confirms and harking back to his adolescent thoughts and affirming his more mature resolution through yet another perfected musical style.

In conclusion the EP is a perfect introduction to the second age of Cosmo Jarvis, so there is nothing left for us to do but wait to listen to more.
