“I was totally overwhelmed by the number of entries for the competition. Whittling them down to fourteen was difficult and there were definitely some great entries outside of the final fourteen that I would have loved to include but unfortunately had to discount after lots of deliberation. I’m really looking forward to meeting the winning producers at the upcoming bootcamp in IbizaSasha

The up-and-coming producers have already been flown to the burn studios Hacienda in Ibiza for a money-can’t-buy opportunity to take part in a 5-day intensive production bootcamp from 26th July to 30th July. The program, developed by SAE Institute with support from Avid providing state-of-the-art pro audio equipment, will include mentoring sessions and master classes from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Sasha, Richie Hawtin, Cassius, the Gomma Records collective and Beatport’s CEO Matt Adell. This years master classes will provide the students with an insight into the careers and production process of the mentors as well as provide an essential foundation of core theoretical knowledge to enhance their understanding of electronic music production. Lessons will cover a wide range of topics such as acoustics, synthesis technology and music business, combined with practical applications using the burn studios audiotool music production platform.

Day 1: The Sound

Day 1 will cover the physics of sound and music. Students will learn about topics such as equalisation and synthesis and explore a wide array of characteristics of individual sounds and whole tracks.

Day 2: Synthesis: The Art of Soundscape Construction

This session develops skills in synthesis, allowing students to make their own sounds rather than just merely using built-in presets. Using bassline and pulverisateur in audiotool, all the myths of synthesis will be exploded.

Day 3: Sound design: Sonic Sculpture

This session will explore the operational principles of audio effects. Students will learn routing, signal flow and crucial combinations of devices to make sounds go from great to legendary, using audiotool’s effects to finalise their sonic vision.

Day 4: Music Business: Know Your Rights

The final day will see students build an in-depth knowledge of the music business with special guest Matt Adell, CEO of Beatport, the largest electronic music retail portal. Sessions will cover the basics of copyright, publishing and record deals, discuss current industry trends and developments and show students how to market and monetise their music, allowing them to make a career from their music.

In addition to the daytime masterclass sessions, the winners will also be offered the chance to experience the best that Ibiza has to offer, with visits to many of the island’s legendary clubs and meeting many of Ibiza’s key industry players.

At the end of the bootcamp, all of the fourteen winning remixes will be released on Beatport and the producer who has achieved the most votes overall for their remix on burn-studios.com will go on to be crowned winner and be awarded the incredible opportunity to fly to Sasha’s studio in New York to collaborate with him on a release for his new label ‘Last Night on Earth’.
