Channel Cairo’s Josh Bowyer Chats To AAAmusic!

AAAmusic: Hello. It’s a bit difficult thinking of questions off the top of my head, given your site already has an “about” FAQ style section that deals with the usual interview fare! Anyhow, I noticed you refer to yourself as a collective rather than a band. Is there any particular reason behind this?

Josh Bowyer: Maybe because it feels more creative and communal, like an artistic kabutz; we are at the mercy of an idea rather than the other [...]

Dangerous! – Movers ‘n Shakers

If you’ve heard the previous single from Aussie Punks Dangerous! then you’ll know precisely what to expect from this. They’re not identical, just, but they’re both full of 60’s inspired garage rock riffing, throat shredding screams that sound suspiciously similar to Nic Cester, singer of fellow Antipodeans Jet, if his hair was set on fire, and the most brain buggeringly simple drums since Seven Nation Army, except now there’s some slight variation in the form of a vaguely Foo Fighters-y [...]

AWOLNATION – Sail

Like any good American Indie Rocker, Aaron Bruno, formerly of Under the Influence of Giants “fame” has a side project. Like any good American Indie Rocker, his side project is mainly electronic and sounds nothing like his day job. Unlike most American Indie Rockers, this is a hell of a lot more than a vanity project. Sail is a swaggering, masterful piece of eclectic, grown up synth-pop, all filthy synth bass, live drum samples, ridiculously catchy keyboard hooks and a [...]

Waters – For The One

Formerly front man of cult Indie Folkers Port O’Brien, Van Pierszalowski helms this, the first single from his new band Waters, and if this is anything to go by, he might have stumbled across something truly great. Waters is a sumptuous mess of distorted guitars, loping drums and the kind of effortless but effervescent melodies not seen since the glory days of Dinosaur J.R and The Lemonheads, in fact, the sound is most reminiscent of Surfer Rosa era Pixies covering [...]
