Kate Havnevik to release new single

| On 12, Aug 2011

Kate Havnevik is set to release her dazzling new single on the 5th September. ‘Show Me Love’ is an explosion of colour and light, with Kate’s dreamy vocals set against a back-drop of beautiful strings and harmonies, riding a wave of lush electronics as it bursts into life with drum rolls and trumpets.

Based in Oslo after a lengthy stint in New York and London, the Norwegian chanteuse has rightfully earned favourable comparisons to such vocally gifted artists as Kate Bush and Goldfrapp. Kate’s music embraces the finest elements of electronica, pop/rock, folk, classical and trip-hop.

Kate’s versatility as a vocalist and songwriter is in evidence with her continued recorded and live collaborations with a diverse selection of the cream of the electronica genre. From fellow countrymen Royksopp to UK Dubstep innovators Engine-Earz; LA electronica hipster Carmen Rizzo through to multi-platinum selling German trance composer Schiller. Kate co-wrote 3 tracks for the latter’s Atemlos (released Mar ’10) and toured Europe extensively with him in 2011. Another recent live highlight was opening for kindred spirit, Imogen Heap at Oslo’s Rockefeller and performing for a London TED seminar.

Raised by classically-trained musician parents, she first dreamt of a career as a jazz guitarist, but soon discovered a talent for writing and latched on to pop, trip-hop. She was a regular face on Oslo’s fertile Blitz punk scene of the ‘90s, before locating to Liverpool to study music herself. It was there that she developed her skills as a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.

Kate’s debut album, Melankton, (2007) received critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, resulting with a phenomenal 8 out of 12 tracks being woven into the narrative of hit US TV show, Grey’s Anatomy. Much of her music has also been featured on The West Wing, Windfall, The O.C. and InJustice.

Her dedicated fans (or ‘Havnevikings’) have been clamouring for a follow up to Melankton ever since. Their patience is about to be rewarded with Kate’s new album, ‘You’ that takes her unique blend of atmospheric, ethereal electronica, distinctive smouldering vocals and cosmopolitan influences to soaring new heights.

Two years in the making and produced by long time collaborators Guy Sigsworth (Bjork, Madonna, Seal) and Petter Haavik (Ost & Kjex), the album once again shows Kate’s knack for dovetailing her own talents with those of incredible collaborators; Trumpet virtuoso Jon Hassell, Norwegian Trumpet player Arve Henriksen and with Adam Young (aka Owl City) lending his post-production and mixing skills to the beautiful song ‘Think Again’ – Kate having met him when she opened for the Grammy nominee, on his major US tour.

Melankton, as well as all previous EPs and singles are available through this website (just click Store) and her eagerlyawaited new album, ‘You’ will be available very, very soon.
