Lee Mitchell – Whisky

| On 22, Aug 2011

Just seconds into Lee Mitchell’s debut EP Whisky and I am already infatuated. With his own take on the indie-folk vibe that has propelled the likes of Mumford & Sons to a position of musical veneration in recent times, Mitchell is bang on trend and has unquestionably done the genre justice.

The gravelly tones of Mitchell’s voice roll over simple acoustic riffs to create a sound that can be described only as utterly gorgeous. Caught In Fire is both the first and the best track of the record. Mitchell effectively builds the tune, allowing listeners to soak up his stunning opening vocal performance above a simple guitar strum, which builds to a climatic end as he passionately repeats the infectious lyrical tagline ‘If you’re caught in the fire run home’. The EP continues as it began, with a series of tantalising and beautiful tunes that you cannot help but sink into.

A wonderful release. Mitchell has ensured that any fan of indie-folk will become immediately intoxicated by the sounds of Whisky.
