“Veers between art-rock eccentricities, Riot Grrrl punk and semi-twee melodic sensibilities. Claire Smith is clearly as mad as a box of frogs, but like all spellbinding weirdos, is really rather brilliant. Like The Slits playing psychedelic rock – an absolute revelation” NME

“Standing out from the crowd as unadulterated highlights are Chapter 24 and their The Who-bastardising Riot Grrrl squabble”
Drowned in Sound

“The music slaps me round the chops. Like Blondie but less blasé and more emotional, and with guitars that zap around the room like a UFO movie from the 1950s” Artrocker

On November 28th Corby/London four-piece Chapter 24 release two gems of unclassifiable brilliance – double A-side ‘Spindle’ and ‘4454’, on Odd Box records.

‘Spindle’ is a 1 minute 44 seconds blast of ultra angular, echo-chamber-heavy tribal art-rock with a kitsch-exotic riff thrown in for good measure.  It sounds like a sexy Frankenstein modelled from the various limbs of Bow Wow Wow, Ramones and Hawkwind members.

‘4454’ manages to combine stoner-doom, Erase Errata erraticness, Bush Tetras-style funk and Sleater Kinney-esque scuzz, resulting in an anthem for non-generic music fans.

Chapter 24 are Claire Smith (vocals), Joe Green (guitar), Mel Stark (bass) and Mark Castro (drums). They released their debut four-track EP earlier this year on their own label – Chaps Records. Influenced by late 70s punk, the Riot Grrrl movement and 60s psychedelia, Chapter 24’s enthusiasm for playing live has seen them play at SXSW and open for Times New Viking, Japandroids and Thee Oh Sees.
