Hailing from Fife, Scotland, Kat McDonald and Grant Tyrie are the nucleus of Little Buddha. A geographic anomaly, one might suppose, but taking into account the fact that Fife is home to such as The Cocteau Twins, Fence Collective (with its varied roster of critically revered artists), and KT Tunstall it becomes apparent there’s something very interesting indeed afoot in the old Kingdom to this day. Grant and Kat, like near-contemporaries Robin Guthrie and Liz Fraser in many ways, remain eerily indefinable. Naming their group after the Bertolucci movie, beats, jazz, avant-pop and film soundtracks provide the palette for their unique soundscapes.

“We’re huge cinema fans and pay particularly close attention to scores and soundtracks and our music has been largely influenced by composers such as John Barry, Ennio Morricone, John Williams and Lalo Schifrin, as well as pop/rock artists like Sigur Ros, Portishead, Nine Inch Nails,Bjork, T-Rex and Blondie.”

Debut album Twisted was recorded at The Doghouse and mastered by Ted Jensen, at Sterling Sound in NYC. Three tracks from the album were recently selected for the soundtrack to Shezhad Afzal’s debut feature film Pendulum Drift.

Following a hugely successful six week tour of the US, including live radio and network TV appearances, a UK tour earlier this year and another coming this October/ November, Little Buddha are currently gearing up for their first full tour of Continental Europe in spring 2012. Recent appearances at Glasgow’s prestigious West End Festival and the main stage at The Penn Festival have seen their epic sound reach out to ever-larger crowds.

Regulars on radio, it’s only a matter of time until their pulsing cinematic grooves fill the airwaves of the world… and indeed, you may well have heard them as part of the custom inflight entertainment for Virgin Airways. TV viewers will also hear the band’s music next spring on a brand new Channel Five trailer.

This year, with the once powerful Myspace now definitively a thing of a past Little Buddha have seized the future and launched their very own Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/littlebuddhatv). Their first video has already received over 5500 views in just four weeks. Second video Therapy gained almost 46,000 in just one week and entered the You Tube monthly charts for September 2011 at #74 as Top Favourite and #103 as most rated worldwide. A new field to conquer, a new world of possibility, and Little Buddha are in the forefront, well ahead of the game.
With Creation Records’ co-founder and pioneering spirit Joe Foster, not only producing the forthcoming album, but also managing them, the future is bright.
