Belleruche’s new single Stormbird is a snippet of an intense, distorted world. A transcendent beat, à la Big Pink, opens the gate to a double vocal of acid audacity. This is the part where I start wanting to use the word haunting in every sentence, before remembering that it is such an overrated word, and thus would not do the song justice. Nevertheless, these female echoes spiralling through an ever-quickening and ever-climaxing beat make for a spiritual effect. Rarely has electronica felt so soulful.
