This is an immediately recognisable Reverend and the Makers track. Simple but catchy harmonies, densely packed lyrics delivered in wry Sheffield inflections, a forceful driving beat and a self-assured intelligence in tone are all elements familiar from their previous work. There’s really nothing that new or ground-breaking on display, so let’s hope the rest of their new album ventures further afield from this established winning formula, or else things may get a tad tiresome. Nethertheless, this is a very enjoyable number which has the same polished veneer, solid songwriting and lyrical wit about it that has made the band so popular.
