Introducing A Girl Called Ruth

| On 10, Jul 2012

Born into a close knit and carefree family of five children and having spent the majority of her modest youth moving across four different countries, from as far away as New Zealand to the shores of Ireland, her beloved North Wales, where she proudly calls home and most recently good old London town, it would be only natural to wonder where ‘A Girl Called Ruth’ managed to find time to take piano, guitar or singing lessons as a child….

….What might be even more surprising after one listen to her accomplished debut single ‘You I See’ is that she never has!

Although Ruth started writing songs and playing music from the tender age of 8, she is in fact entirely self-taught, playing instinctively whilst visualising the stories she’s woven into her lyrics, as if played out in a film or TV scene.

It’s this cinematic vision, projected through layers of haunting backing vocals, synthlines and uplifting keys, that’s clearly evident in ‘You I See’; each element combining fluidly to create an atmospheric, contemporary love song, full of youthful honesty and grace.

Like any young girl growing up, Ruth has experienced her ups and downs, and whilst ‘You I See’ is a reflection of that, it refrains from the clichés and phoney tugs at synthetic heart strings so often witnessed within the current pop scene.

What becomes evident from this and her forthcoming live shows is  ‘A Girl Called Ruth’ is very much a real girl, telling real stories about real things… and it’s hard to argue against there being something incredibly refreshing about that.
