Catherine Irwin ‘Mockingbird’ featuring Bonnie Prince Billy (free download)

| On 28, Jul 2012

This week Catherine Irwin (member of the renowned alt-country group Freakwater) premiered a track ‘Mockingbird’ off her forthcoming second solo album, Little Heater on Paste Magazine.

The opening track and one of the highlights from the album, Mockingbird draws from an unusual inspiration as Catherine puts it:

“A mockingbird flew in through my backdoor and got stuck inside my house for a while,” Irwin says. “It seemed like he didn’t want to leave. He was just sitting in the middle of my bed yelling at me. When he finally flew back out I saw that he had pooped psychedelic purple mulberry poop all over my bed. I am really afraid of birds so it seemed like some kind of an omen. French people think that it’s lucky if a bird poops on you. I am rather drawn to this kind of magical thinking.”

Mockingbird is one of two tracks on the album to feature the vocal talents of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, whom she describes as “a perfectionist with an amazing ability to recognize when the thing that has just occurred spontaneously is really the perfect thing.”

The track is free to download via the Soundcloud link below:

Little Heater will be out on 17th September 2012 via Thrill Jockey Records.
