Free weekly live shows continue a The Forum, Sheffield

| On 01, Nov 2010

Like many good things which just seem to happen and you don’t know who to thank, some people behind the scenes just like to get on with their work and not indulge in too much trumpet blowing. There’s been an aural revolution happening week in, week out since the spring in the Steel City, taking place most Mondays and Wednesdays with the emphasis firmly on breaking in new talent but also showcasing some sizzling hot acts from around the world.

For the good folk at Plug in Sheffield, one of the UK’s leading three-roomed epicentres of music and fun, this is exactly what has been happening with quiet endeavour at one of the city’s coolest small venues: The Forum. Packing in around two hundred people for each session, the venue has already witnessed some incredible shows from a brace of dynamic and fresh bands, including Cardiff’s enigmatic and mysterious Islet, the sonorous Lauren Pritchard, Manchester’s wonderful weird popsters Dutch Uncles, New York’s indie rockers Freelance Whales and possibly the next princess of pop in the making: Florrie.

This sumptuous talent have all been free – remember, there is no door price all night long – offering something of a unique proposition during the week for those seeking out some of the best bands around whose sounds have defined 2010. Adele Bailey from Plug explains that, “We’ve always got some great bands on at Plug but also we wanted to explore the idea of doing some smaller, slightly more intimate shows, and The Forum is perfect for this. Since April this year we have had some really amazing people playing, and some people can’t quite get their heads around it. There are some brilliant bands coming up in November too, it’s a real hotbed of talent with people from the US, Canada, Australia and France.”

Coming up through November is a string of gigs including sets from Gypsy and The Cat, Alvarez Kings’ Simon Peter Thompson, Toronto’s Diamond Rings and Tek – One.
