Drive-By Truckers release new album ‘Go-Go Boots’ on February 14th 2011

| On 12, Jan 2011

Drive-By Truckers will release their new album ‘Go-Go Boots’ through Play It Again Sam on 14th February. ‘Go-Go Boots’ is the band’s eleventh record and was produced by their longtime producer, David Barbe. In conjunction with ‘Go-Go Boots’, the band will also make their documentary ‘The Secret to a HappyEnding’ available via www.drivebytruckers.com

‘Go-Go Boots’ builds on their roots with the old Muscle Shoals country-and-
soul sound. “We recorded nearly 40 songs last year and into this year and fairly early on divided it into two separate albums” explains DBT co-founder Patterson Hood. “’The Big To-Do’, released first, was the more straight forward “Rock” album. ‘Go-Go Boots’ is what I sometimes (semi-jokingly) refer to as our country, soul and murder ballad album. Those elements definitely play into it, but it’s a little more open ended than that.”

‘The Secret to a Happy Ending’ is a film about the redemptive power of rock-
and-roll. It’s a film about the American South, where rock was born. It’s about a group of kids that grew up amidst the sweet soul music made in Muscle Shoals, Alabama by black and white musicians while the civil rights movement exploded all around. It’s about leaving home and embracing the DIY ethos of punk. It’s about making art, making love and making a living. It’s a film about the Drive-By Truckers. Select screenings of the documentary are still being shown in theatres across the US and FilmBuff will release the movie on iTunes and across other digital platforms.

Released earlier this year, Drive-By Truckers’ last album ‘The Big To-Do’ met
with widespread critical acclaim upon its release and gifted the band their highest UK Chart entry. The album also sold twice as many copies in its first week than its predecessor. Uncut magazine made ‘The Big To-Do’ their ‘Album of the Month’ and the record has been nominated for their ‘Album of the Year’ Award. Sunday Times praised the band for displaying “a mature lyrical sensibility almost entirely absent from all rock music”. NME applauded their “terrific, ear-splitting, shit-kicking country boogie” and Vice declared the album “knocks seven shades of shit and sawdust out of all those Bon Fleet Foxing Iver guys”.

Drive-By Truckers will release a series of ‘Go-Go Boots episodes directed by
Patterson Hood and Jason Thrasher. As a preview to the episodes they’ve
released a video for ‘Used To Be a Cop’, which can be viewed here.

The Drive-By Truckers are Patterson Hood, Mike Cooley, Shonna Tucker, Brad
Morgan, John Neff and Jay Gonzalez.
