The Tamborines_ new single ‘Black&Blue’

| On 29, Mar 2011

The Tamborines release their brand new single ‘Black & Blue’ via their own Beat-Mo imprint on Monday, April 18. It will be available on limited-edition 7″ vinyl and as a download.

The single is the first new material from the band since last year’s acclaimed debut album ‘Camera & Tremor’ and also the first featuring their new line-up, which sees Lulu Grave moving from keyboards to drums (and also, on B-side ‘Indian Hill’, lead vocals). The addition of bassist Chokis Costa gives singer/guitarist Henrique Laurindo even more space to unleash his arsenal of feedback and fuzz.

Recorded at the band’s home studio in west London, ‘Black & Blue’ is a pure pop rush, distilling the wooziness of My Bloody Valentine, the barbed wire kisses of The Jesus And Mary Chain and the lo-fi indie of Guided by voices before attaching the results to a runaway Bo Diddley beat and adding a saccharine sweet melody for good measure. It’s possibly the most exhilarating two minutes and 10 seconds you’ll hear all year.

Praise for ‘Camera & Tremor’

“A heady burst of fuzzed-up guitar pop” The Times

“The Tamborines have honed the scuzzy, bleary-eyed guitar sound of The Velvet Underground and The Byrds, push it through a ’90s grunge-o-meter and still manage to sound ridiculously fresh and exciting” Shortlist

“Pop confections swathed in superfuzz distortion. Yummy” Popmatters

“For fans of no-nonsense, upbeat shoegaze, it’s hard to beat” Loud & Quiet

The Tamborines support Crystal Stilts at Cargo on Wednesday (March 30) and will be hosting a launch party for the single as part of the White Light clubnight at The Lexington in London on Friday, April 15. They will play live alongside very special guests Patent Saints and Zoo Zero.
