Some Kind Of Leader – Two Pair

| On 24, Oct 2011

Sadly, not every moment of one’s existence can take place on a languid sunny day. Thankfully, Cardiff four-piece Some Kind of Leader are here with their brand of aural sunshine. It’s like drinking drowsy cough medicine, without the unpleasant side effects. I’m not promising it will cure your cough though.

Two Pair is going somewhere, but is in no hurry to get there. Wonderfully clear productions means you can savour the nimble strolling base line. The spiralling guitars are a highlight, promising to transport the listener on a magical journey. Psychadelic sound effects add to the magical mystery tour, but never appear indulgent. This is a band perfectly in control. You are in safe hands.

This song is nearly six minutes long, with an leisurely fade out. It could be twice that length and I would never tire of it. Singer Ali Price is a modern day Shaman and I’m willing to follow his mellifluous tones wherever he wants to take me. He expresses light and shade, which makes both more piquant.

Two Pair recalls The Verve, back when they were just Verve. This song is more languid than the Indie classic A Man Called Sun, but it could easily have played a supporting role on one of their early E.P.s. Fans of the band Levitation – and indeed the gravity defying state of the same name – should definitely check out Some Kind Of Leader.
