Saint Saviour – New single: I Call This Home & Live dates

| On 01, May 2012

Becky Jones first announced herself as Saint Saviour with two critically acclaimed self released EPs. Now, one of the UK’s most formidable vocal talents is ready to unleash her debut album Union. The first release, I Call This Home, is a fitting introduction to her dark, seductive world.

If Saint Saviour makes “music that comes from [the] gut”, I Call This Home examines the complex knot of who we are and of the struggle to escape your roots. Insidious drums pile over a shimmering backdrop, building to a heady sense of transcendence, Saint Saviour’s soulful voice harmonizing with itself.

The single is out now on one track download from iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/i-call-this-home-single/id516530408) and all the usual places. You can hear it on Soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/saintsaviour/i-call-this-home-1) and YouTube (http://youtu.be/F2bEoGWNSNs). It’ll be followed by a download bundle on June 24 including remixes by Maxxi Soundsystem, Kissy Sellout, Owsey, and RuN RiOT, each artist putting their own exciting stamp on the original.

Perhaps best known until now as co-writer and de facto front woman for Groove Armada, Stockton-on-Tees born Jones took her traditional music background and harnessed it to a burgeoning love of electro and production skills, inspired by the works of Factory Records and the seminal producer Martin Hannett.

Union, her debut album has one foot in the proud lineage of female electric pioneers like MIA and Robyn, the other pulling along the line of classic songwriting like Scott Walker and Carole King. It is by turns bewitching, challenging and delightful, as Becky’s dancing soprano twists and turns around a collection of songs, both electronic and organic entirely written, A&Red, produced and performed by herself.

As compelling live as she is on record, Saint Saviour has a visual aesthetic that is very much her own. Forthcoming festival appearances include Lovebox and Rockness, following Republic Of Music’s showcase at The Great Escape. To coincide with the release of Union, Saint Saviour will play two special headlining shows at London’s St Pancras Old Church.
