Age of Consent – Heartbreak

| On 10, Jun 2012

This single has proven itself to be one of those songs you can listen to over and over again without getting bored of it. The track – ‘Heartbreak’ – displays the perfect partnership between really good vocals and a good melody.
The song itself is a blend of electro-indie-pop which helps to make it so rememberable. To say the song is catchy is fairly untrue because, in reality, it’s a good song but it’s not going to be stuck in your brain for days. It is, however, something that you’ll want to listen to whenever you open up your media player on your computer. There’s something about the song that draws you to it. It’s hard to get enough of it.
The lyrics aren’t exactly spectacular but they’re still pretty good and, although they’re simple, they have enough in them to make an impact. The song definitely wouldn’t be the same if the lyrics were more complicated. For me, the lyrics of the song can sometimes prove to be the main element of the song – they tend to be what I remember best about a song. Sadly, in this case, they don’t prove themselves to be striking lyrics but they’re good enough. The lyrics tell the story of heartbreak – as if that wasn’t obvious from the name.
One of the things I absolutely loved about this track was the repetition that occurred with the lyrics and the backing music. It was probably this repetition that helps to make it so hard to stop listening to. Whenever I stop listening to it, there’s always a nagging part of me that wants to play it again.

The song seems to get better as it goes on and the build-up to the abrupt ending is incredible. In fact, the more you listen to this song, the chances are you’ll start to love it more and more. I’m predicting big things for Age of Consent if this track is anything to go by.
