How Useful Are Flyers In Music Promotions?

Flyers were and still are one of the best ways to promote music bands, both new and old. Though we live in a world of lightning-fast data transitions, the old school stuff never gets old. Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, “Are flyers still effective?”. The answer is yes they are. Though marketing emails and social media feeds help you reach a broader audience, they are not as effective. 

People today are so used to those sorts of advertising that they flick right past them. Decorating and highlighting those advertisements becomes much more expensive, which isn’t affordable by the majority.

On the other hand, flyers carry authenticity with them, provided they are executed correctly. People will at least read flyers before they start looking a trash can, compared to online posts or emails where the trash or a scroll down is but a click away. 

The important bit with flyer marketing is that they act as first impressions, which you can’t afford to get wrong in any sense of the matter. Tick the priorities before you move onto more complicated design elements. A simple message won’t cut it, the design has to have an impact as well.

If you’re just starting out, try making a list of the necessities prior to visiting a designer, such as this one:

  • Colour vs BW print
  • Fonts
  • Alignment
  • Headings 
  • Easy to read

Each of the above features adds a point of authenticity to your flyers. More points ensure a greater chance of your people actually attending/buying into the event that you’re hosting. 

Colour flyers are always more vibrant. It will help you highlight the event at first glance.

Fonts are also an important aspect. Too many will muddle the message and so far, two fonts are your safest bets.

Alignment is necessary since you wouldn’t be wanting your flyers to appear like shopping lists, hence go for the centre alignment.

Most of all, flyers are cheap compared to putting your ads online. It might take some time but they are definitely worth the investment, especially when it’s this affordable.
