Kerrang! Awards fuelled by Relentless Energy Drink Nominations

| On 04, May 2011

Kerrang! Magazine has revealed the nominations for the 2011 Kerrang! Awards fuelled by Relentless Energy Drink, which take place in London on Thursday 9 June.

In a year that celebrates the 30th anniversary of Kerrang! Magazine, My Chemical Romance, one of the most iconic and successful rock acts of the last decade, lead the charge with a whopping five nominations. The Grammy-nominated New Jersey act who spawned a whole generation of dedicated followers and fans worldwide and pioneered a brand new style of alternative rock fusing elements of pop, punk and emo, and whose hits include ‘I’m Not Okay’, ‘Helena’, ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’, ‘I Don’t Love You‘ and ‘Teenagers’, are nominated for Best Album, Best International Band, Best Video (presented by Kerrang! TV), Best Single (presented by Kerrang! Radio) and Best Live (presented by Download).

My Chemical Romance say of their 5 nominations “The UK has always been one of our favorite places to play as band, and we are so grateful for these nominations and the continued support from Kerrang!, it’s readers and our fans.   Thank you for the recognition and we hope to see you this summer.”

Not to be completely outdone, fellow American rockers 30 Seconds To Mars and Avenged Sevenfold are in hot pursuit with Jared Leto & co. up for four awards – Best Album, Best International Band, Best Video and Best Single – and M. Shadows’ metalcore posse nominated for three awards – Best Album, Best Live and Best International Band. Maryland pop-punkers and headliners of the 2010 Kerrang! Relentless Energy Drink Tour All Time Low are nominated for Best Live and Best International Band.

Looking to burst their bubble are the best in British; UK Top Ten Welsh metal outfit Bullet For My Valentine, and Sheffield heavy metallers Bring Me The Horizon are each nominated for three Kerrang! awards this year – both vying for Best British Band (presented by Rising Records), alongside You Me At Six, The Blackout and Enter Shikari,  and Best Single, with Bullet also nominated for Best Live, and Bring Me The Horizon battling for Best Album along with fellow UK acts The Blackout and Escape The Fate.

Best British Newcomer is a fierce competition between the Tom DeLonge endorsed Francesqa, punk / hardcore act Blitz Kids, York metallers Asking Alexandria, who recently appeared on US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live, Midlands four piece Octane OK and Rising Records’ signing The Dead Lay Waiting.

Best International Newcomer is a melting pot of hip hop, grrl power and KISS-style make up, with a throwdown between Ohio glam-rockers Black Veil Brides, NY punkers We Are The In Crowd, the edgy glamour of Taylor Momsen’s The Pretty Reckless, post-hardcore act D.R.U.G.S and LA hip hop star Hyro Da Hero, whose collaborations with The Blackout and ex-members of At The Drive In and Blood Brothers have earned him his rock stripes.

“The competition is really hotting up!” says Kerrang!’s Deputy Editor Daniel J. Lane. “It’s been an amazing year for our music and it’s really exciting to see such a diverse range of bands nominated for this year’s K! Awards. I personally love the fact that our very own home-grown heroes Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon and The Blackout are going head-to-head with U.S. heavyweights like My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds To Mars and Avenged Sevenfold. But, as ever, it’s up to the Kerrang! readers to decide who gets to walk away with one of our coveted K! trophies on the night. So get voting!”

It was announced last month that the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne, will be honoured as Kerrang! Legend at the Awards, to mark 30 years of Kerrang! Magazine, his exclusive ‘Kerrang! 30th Birthday’ show at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo on 21 June is on sale now, tickets from www.aloud.com <http://www.aloud.com> .

6 June 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of Kerrang! Magazine, which launched as a supplement to the now defunct Sounds Magazine. The Kerrang! Awards fuelled by Relentless Energy Drink promises to celebrate this exciting milestone birthday in true style – and although details of what to expect on the night always remain firmly under wraps, guests can expect the weird, the wonderful and the truly wicked when they arrive at this year’s bash.
