Boots Electric @ The Garage

| On 21, Mar 2012

London, 14th March

Eyes on Film have the Manchester sound down to a tea. And the drummer looks like that girl from ‘Skins’. They mix the traditional Manchester scene sound with electronics and well timed rhythm track but it’s nothing really new. Seen this done a million times before. The angsty frontman the brooding bass player, the female drummer is a nice touch and makes you pay more attention but by the end of the evening I had even forgotten they had played. Wracking my memory I would say they had hints of the ‘Charlatans’ and the singer has quite a strong obnoxious voice, I cannot see myself going out of my way to see them again they did not really strike the right notes with me.

The funny thing is I have never known a camp stoner but we have one of these tonight in ‘Jesse Hughes’, and women love him but he is not camp in a gay way, rather in a fun way. He has even dressed up his bass player as a school girl which he says is his currant squeeze and that the shop keeper had given him funny looks when he went with her to buy it. He does a lot of comedy but the music talks for itself. It’s a blues, rock explosion! of good songs from his back catalogue and the band he was in with ‘Josh Hommes’ from ‘Kyuss and Queens of the Stoneage’ called ‘Eagles of death Metal’ who will be playing the ‘Reading Festival’ this year. The crowd are really into it, wearing big handle bar mustaches and smiles.

He goes up to every member of the audience. who is dressed up and hugs them all. He is very popular at the moment and the ‘Garage’ tonight is a complete sell out. He really gives you good value for money playing quite a lot of songs that really go down well. He is chilled as he gives you all the hits from ‘Cherry Cola’ to ‘Bad dream Mama’ this is a slick operation and I would like to see him do bigger projects in the future.

A star is born in London and that is Jesse Hughes and I would not have ever guessed in my wildest dreams that it would be a man in a checked shirt with his chain braces and a handle bar mustache but he has made this evening fun for everyone.
