Lords of Flatbush Unveil Single – Hear It Here!

| On 13, Jul 2010

Is it the fiercely independent spirit? The solid bedrock of decades of musical innovation? Or just something in the water? In truth, it’s probably a combination of all of the above, plus a certain je ne sais quoi, that makes Steel City’s musical output one of such singularity. Now joining the roll call of Sheffield notables come Lords of Flatbush.
Forming the hub of the operation is the duo of producer/songwriters Steve Neil Edwards and Fill Jones. With a CV as rich and varied as full English breakfast, they have worked their special brand of musical alchemy with all manner of talent from Bassment Jaxx, Moloko, Axwell, Reverend & the Makers, Bob Sinclar, Pulp, Cassius, Bjork, REM, Sly & Robbie to the latest bright spark struck off the Steel City anvil, Toddla T. Having already raised a dance floor commotion in collaboration with Seamus Haji on the single ‘24 Hours’, Flatbush swiftly moved on to recording an acclaimed live Radio 1 session and playing a clutch of roof-raising live dates. Now suitably poised with all cylinders
firing, they make their official debut with the rambunctious single, 999.

999 is a slice of rich roots roast, with a sweet crackling of ska and side dish of spiky punk. It’s a cut that was made to pump from a street sound system on a humid August day; the kind that parps on the bass notes and rattles your fillings as you walk past. Bringing in the mixes are the aforementioned Toddla T and Ross Orton, who add extra spice and dance floor beef to the pot, while UMSD deliver a full-throttle, brushed metal house jam that roars like Gwangi. With
the summer approaching, 999 promises to deliver delirious vibes and happy feet, day or night, sun or rain, from here to the Flatbush city limits. With strong beliefs of love, justice, passion and the truth, believe them when they say: “We’re gonna be there when you are in trouble”.
