London, 18th January

Seerauber Jenny tonight play in front of a small but warm crowd at the Bull & Gate’s dingy back room.

The band decides to open with the beat driven, 90s influenced, Forget Everything, which immediately sets the rules of the night. The lead guitarist, completely absorbed by the music and her playing, makes sure a bit of electric muscle is added to the tune.

The set continues with Capt Ahab, Stay Here and We’ll Cast Lots, to then go to the beautiful, painful, hypnotic Waste of Time. The audience is now in the palm of their hands, everyone is mesmerized by the power of their sound. Despite all these, some of their weaker tunes remind me of those Acoustic 101 songs they have when someone gets dumped on The OC, which is a shame, but hey, they clearly have room for improvement here!

As if they somehow read my mind, the new song Avalanche kicks in. probably the highlight of the set, this suggests brilliant things for the future and I quickly abandon the negativity I had only few minutes ago and I am back in deep love with them.

Fran Barker’s vocals are stunning, she sings with all her passion and in complete abandon despite the relatively small audience; as if her vocals skills are not enough, she delights us with shy but fun banter.

The set closes with the standout song Push It Away, a passionate and driving tune.

Definitely a band to keep an eye on, with lots of potential. Clearly one to watch in 2011.
