SANDY DENNY - I've Always Kept A Unicorn - The Acoustic Sandy Denny

The late Sandy Denny, legendary singer-songwriter, was a huge influence behind the work of British folk-rock bands The Strawbs, Fairport Convention, Fotheringay and The Bunch. Recently released in 2012 was the comprehensive Sandy Denny: The Notes and Words and in 2015 Fotheringay – Nothing More: The Collected Fotheringay.

I’ve Always Kept A Unicorn: The Acoustic Sandy Denny, a 40-track/2CD set of demos, live, radio and TV recordings, will be released on April 22, 2016. These are short arrangements of songs Sandy performed which have been added to material from her four solo albums. The set comes with sleeve notes by Mick Houghton, author of the critically acclaimed Sandy Denny biography I’ve Always Kept A Unicorn, published in 2015.

Exclusive are three unreleased demos for the 1972 rock and roll covers album The Bunch Rock On:  ‘Love Made A Fool Of You’, ‘Learning The Game’ and ‘When Will I Be Loved’, a duet with Linda Thompson. “Sandy was, as are our most brilliant performers, much better solo; I so wish she had recorded a solo album, and told her so”,said Linda Thompson.

Sandy Denny was hugely gifted and her haunting and intimate songs are still admired and continue to find new audiences today. At times the magic is exquisitely beautiful, which is perhaps an expression that cautious reviewers tend to use sparingly. She has devoted fans who treasure many happy memories and I feel very fortunate that I was able to see her live.
