Beyond music: Primmmavera is the gastronomic lineup of Primavera Sound

| On 07, May 2018

Conventional wisdom has it that there are three golden rules to survive a festival like Primavera Sound: 1) sleep on a good mattress; 2) stay hydrated; and 3) eat as well as possible. In the same way that the festival has spent the last 18 years searching for musical uniqueness with its artistic lineup, the arrival of Primmmavera –the new gastronomic proposal of Primavera Sound– wants to bury once and for all the cliché that it’s impossible to eat well at a festival.

Thanks to Verbena Foodie, Primmmavera is more than a gastronomic proposal: it is an artistic-culinary lineup for all tastes, needs and pockets. The festival thus consolidates its commitment to the variety of proposals that the food trucks located all around the Parc del Fòrum site bring and adds two significant novelties: the central food area will now be called Barcelona Street Food Restaurants, with 20 restaurants from the city that will offer their quality street food to festivalgoers; and a new pop-up venue located in the Casa Primavera (former Café del Mar) that each day will become a different and once-only restaurant with the renowned chefs Diego Guerrero (Saturday), Eduardo ‘Lalo’ García (Friday) and Douglas McMaster (Thursday). In total the festival will offer 50 different culinary proposals aimed at satisfying the demands of all the members of the audience.

What will there be to eat at Primavera Sound?

Casa Primavera, located in the Primavera Bits area, will host three exceptional chefs during the main days of the festival, who will organize tailor-made gourmet set menus. The festival will welcome Diego Guerrero, 2 star Michelin chef who runs his own restaurant DSTAgE in Madrid, will present on Saturday 2nd June his experimental and ground-breaking cuisine that incorporates ingredients from all around the world.

Friday 1st June will be the turn of the Mexican chef Eduardo ‘Lalo’ García, one of the best cooks in Latin America, who will exhibit the traditional cuisine of his country that he offers in his three restaurants in Mexico. Those of you who have seen the Netflix series Ugly Delicious will know all about his difficult history in the United States, marked by two deportations and even jail time. His presence at Primavera Sound will also have a marked charitable dimension: he will donate his entire cachet to NGO The South Face, that encourages higher education and facilitates access to the labor market for African students.

Douglas McMaster will inaugurate the pop-up restaurant on Thursday 31st May. The British chef will bring the 0 waste proposal of his restaurant Silo in Brighton to Barcelona: in his meals absolutely nothing goes to waste, thanks to his cuisine rich in vegetarian ingredients, local products and 100% respectful of the environment.

In order to achieve the full potential of the experience, there will also be an option of food and wine pairing courtesy of WINEISSOCIAL and their sommelier César Cánovas, winner of numerous awards including the Golden Nose in Spain (2002 and 2005) and the Ruinart Trophey (2001 and 2004). Each wine-pairing proposal will be elaborated in harmony with each of the three gourmet tasting menus, and on each day there will be special collaborations with sommeliers and the wine producers themselves.

The pop-up restaurant will be located in the Casa Primavera inside the Primavera Bits VIP area, but it will not be necessary to have a VIP full festival ticket in order to enjoy the set menus. Booking for this restaurant can only be made in advance, and the reservation period is now open.

Festivalgoers will have another place where they can sit and eat by the beach: the Xiringuito Aperol of Primavera Bits, where each day from midday there will be electronic music sessions paired with the paellas of the restaurant Kauai de Gavà (Barcelona), run by chef Óscar Manresa. His informal and festive Mediterranean cuisine will delight paella and tapas lovers. It is also already possible to make your bookings on the Primmmavera webpage.

Another difference at this year’s edition will be the revamping of the central food area. This year it will be a homage to Barcelona and to its street food restaurants: up to 20 restaurants from the city will occupy the spaces in the area offering a culinary experience which is as appetising as it is varied. Hamburgers by La Burgueseria and El Filete Ruso, local tapas by El Quim de La Boqueria, ramen by Grasshopper, Southeast Asian cuisine by Hawker 45, poke from Poké Maoli, pizza by Garden Pizza, Indian food from Masala 73, Syrian balls from A Tu Bola, pasties by Las Muns, sandwiches by La Porca, vegetarian cuisine by Rasoterra, Japanese food from Be Japo, paella by Entre Tapes, bao buns by Odkhuu’s Kitchen and healthy food from Fruiteca: quality options for all tastes and diets (gluten free, vegetarian, vegan…) that condense the cosmopolitan spirit of Barcelona into one single space. If you are interested, you can find out more info about the vegan probiotics you might want to try in the future.

As always, the traditional food trucks will be located around the site, in the area of the two main stages as well as in Primavera Bits, in the area of the Pitchfork stage and at other strategic points in the Parc del Fòrum so that there is always something to eat nearbys. New classics like hot dogs by The Dog Is Hot, vegetarian food by Vegetalia, tacos and nachos from Eureka Street Food, Asian tapas by Mosquito, sandwiches by La Volovan, Peruvian cuisine from Warike and Venezuelan cuisine by Ïnta, the potato shuffle from La International, kebabs from Kebabs on Wheels and ice-creams from Nitrogenie, among many others, to make up the most varied and affordable gastronomic proposal at Primavera Sound.

Once again this year, all the leftovers will be collected and donated to the Food Bank. At last year’s festival a total of 460 kg of food was collected.

And as a bonus track: just in case you were worried… Nick’s Perritos hot dog stands will also be there. Like Shellac, they cannot not be there. Primmmavera, have a great festival.
