Kasabian – Live @ Forest Live

| On 19, Jun 2018

Sunday 10th June, Thetford Forest

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Thetford Forest, at first I thought I was at a Leicester City Football Club convention, such were the number of said team shirts worn by the crowd. Alas not, as Leicester’s finest, Kasabian were playing probably the Forestry Commissions biggest gig in years and the venue is of course sold out with some 10,000 in the audience.

Support from upcoming Brighton band, Yonaka, put on a confident and lively 35 minute set with lots of movement by the band and great stage presence. A joy to watch and some great songs with riffs to die for.

As the sun went down behind the trees, Kasabian come on and “Ill Ray (The King)” starts proceedings to a rapturous crowd who were now having a party, dancing, jumping with lots of beer cup throwing and the odd smoke flare going up.

Drawing songs from the superb new album – For Crying Out Loud – and their huge back catalogue of hits this is a truly energetic, powerful and epic performance and a real coup to get such a world recognised name playing on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.

Highlights included “You’re In Love with a Psycho” which earned a huge reaction from the crowd with lead singer Tom Meighan and guitarist Sergio Pizzorno, covering every inch of the stage, connecting with their crowd every minute of this performance (no snowflakes here). More great songs like “Eez-Eh”, “Wasted” and “Empire” followed, but one of the biggest cheers was for the brilliant “Bless This Acid House” which was quite frankly epic and even got the crowd right at the back (where I was now located) to dance and put their hands in the air.

At the end of their set they came back on for a four song encore which included an acoustic version of “Goodbye Kiss” and ensuring the energy didn’t let up they played out with the classic “Fire”.

To conclude. It is truly fabulous to see big bands at the top of their game in such a beautiful rural setting in the middle of East Anglia. Long may it continue and I can’t wait to see how they will top tonight’s performance!
