Katzenjammer @ Scala

| On 31, Mar 2012

London, 22nd March

Katzenjammer are touring around Europe promoting the new album “A Kiss Before You Go”.

The Scala tonight is almost sold-out and it’s very hard to find a spot. The four Norwegian girls have already played a couple of times in the UK enchanting hundreds and hundreds of people with their music and with their talent, and their “mission” has just begun. Their music, so hard to define, is something that can be especially appreciated live. Don’t get me wrong, their albums are absolutely fantastic, but what lies behind this fantastic group, must be discovered at one of their gig, at least for once in your lifetime. The gig starts at 9:30, with a new song “Ouch” followed by one of their most famous track “Demon Kitty Rag”. The best value for this band is definitely the identity they were able to give to the group – in fact, there is no singer, drummer, lead guitarist or bass player; they can sing and play almost all the instruments on stage. Simply amazing! The setlist is a good mixture of old songs (taken from the first album “Le Pop”) and new tracks. All the energy on the stage is easily transmitted to the audience with continuous sing-along tracks like “A Bar in Amsterdam”, “To the Sea” and the fantastic Genesis’ cover “Land of Confusion” (that’s how a cover should be made!). The atmosphere at the Scala is absolutely magic, a blend of folk festival, circus, cabaret and rock party – it’s like having Gogol Bordello, Django Reinhardt and Devotchka playing together on the same stage with the extra special feature of brilliant female voices. Tonight’s gig is even more special as the audience have prepared a surprise for one of the Katzenjammer girl (Anne Marit 30’s birthday) showing a big “Happy Birthday” from the first row and singing the jingle along with the rest of the band. The incredible skills of this band reach the top of the mountain with songs like “To The Sea”, “I Will Dance”, “Hey Ho On The Devil’s Back” and “Mother Superior”, absolutely fantastic! Katzenjammer (recently nominated at the Echo Awards as Best International Band) is one of those bands to see at least once in a lifetime, as they will leave you more than satisfied at the end of the gig. Their next gig in London is May 23 at XOYO, definitely a date to remember and a night not to be missed!
