AM – Self Preservation
Ironically enough, it takes a lot of effort for something to sound truly effortless, and Tulsa born, New Orleans raised artist AM has pulled it off spectacularly on his Debut UK single, Self Preservation. Opening on a gorgeous electric guitar melody, backed by brushed acoustic guitars and the simplest of drums, the song doesn’t deviate much from that formula, but it doesn’t have to in order to be a great song.
As the song progresses melodicas add a certain amount of atmosphere to the record, but it never progresses beyond a relaxed saunter of a song, which is good for the song itself, but quite worrying overall, if the AM can only write a song this laidback then stretching it over an album could be just boring. But the subtleties of this record allude to something special from AM on his forthcoming record “Future Sons & Daughters”. A great record and definitely an artist to watch.
