5 Must-See Acts at Soundwave 2017
aaamusic | On 26, Jul 2017
When it comes to Croatia’s music festivals, Soundwave is the cream of the crop. With its intimate atmosphere, idyllic coastal setting and eclectic lineups, Soundwave offers something uniquely laid-back and joyous when compared to the rave-centred hedonism of the other festivals. It all kicks off tomorrow and we hope to see you there. Join us as we count down our five unmissable festivals acts playing over the next few days…
We’ve long championed Anchorsong – aka Masaaki Yoshida – here at AAA. His multi-layered electronica weaves together trip-hop, house and post-electronica, and often features live instrumentation. Totally unique.
If you’ve never seen this modern jazz-dance trio live, then they mustn’t be missed. Their records have produced some of the most exciting contemporary jazz sounds in recent years, but it’s on stage where GoGo Penguin truly thrive.
One of the most recognisable names on this year’s programme, the real reason to see soul sensation Laura Mvula is simply because she’ll be bringing something fresh to Soundwave: a “stripped back” set on the festival’s beach stage. Bliss.
Moses Boyd: Solo X
Anything this drummer, composer and producer touches seems to turn to gold. He’s won multiple awards for his jazz drumming skills and contributions, and his drum-laced electronic productions are wonderfully heady. We’re curious to see what this particular ‘Solo X’ project will involve, but we know it’ll blow our minds.
…And how could we not recommend the master and legend himself, Roy Ayers. He was the highlight of Dimensions 2014, and he’s sure to be the highlight of Soundwave 2017. Why? Witness the ‘Godfather of Neo-Soul’ perform “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” yourself and you’ll understand.
