Detroit Social Club – Existence

The long awaited  debut album of Detroit Social Club starts with Kiss The Sun, epic rock ballad with dark intro, precise drum beats, sharp guitars and synths. Chruch-esque chorus which would make Ennio Morricone proud and the David Burn’s vocals kick in. Despite the sun of the title, the atmosphere is pretty dark and the music voluntary rough: I’m loving it.

Northern Man, by far the highlight of the album, surprises you with orchestral violins, contributing to yet another apocalyptic scenario. [...]

Kings Go Forth – The Outsiders Are Back

The Outsiders are back is the debut album by Kings Go Forth (the name is borrowed from the title of an ancient Frank Sinatra and Tony Curtis movie), the Milwaukee based soul band co-founded by Andy Noble and long time Milwaukee area R&B performer Black Wolf, immensely talented singer and writer, former member of The Essentials, after the two met in Andy’s record shop circa 2004.

Following a string of seven inches lauded by soul music blogs and spun by the [...]

Noisia – Split The Atom

Noisia new single Split The Atom comprises everything the debut album is about: great deal of experimental sound, drum ‘n’ bass, techno beats, synths.

At times it reminds me of The Chemical Brothers early sound, with flashbacks of summer nights partying by the beach. I guess this is best pictures what this track is all about: fun, great party nights out with your mates. Be sure you’ll hear it over and over this summer at Pacha and the likes of it.

fun. – All The Pretty Girls

All The Pretty Girls

The nicer, less annoying but equally powerful version of Mika comes from NY and is impersonated by Nate, the lead singer of fun.

All The Pretty Girls embodies all the influences their have, twist and thorn until the result is something refreshing and unique. The lovely 70s/80s initial chorus could have been taken from Queen, while the melodies have a sparkle of Beach Boys. The result is a highly enjoyable tune, easy to memorize but with quite complex melodies, with [...]

The Likes New Single & Videos!

Today LA ladies The Like release their new Mark Ronson produced single ‘He’s Not A Boy’ through Polydor/Downtown. Described by The Guardian as “1960s perfection”, ‘He’s Not a Boy‘ is an unforgettably catchy hit, showing how far they’ve come since their 2006 debut album ‘Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking’ both in terms of musicianship and growing from teenagers into young women. It precedes their new album ‘Release Me’, due out in August.

The band have also today uploaded a special [...]

DEVO – Gerry Casale On Their First Album In 20 Years

AAAmusic: To start off with, I must ask you why you waited 20 years to release the new album?

Gerry Casale: It was now or never. Mark Mothersbaugh’s war of attrition ended and made it possible.

AAAmusic: The sound of the new album reflects your typical sound, although it has pleasant surprises, such as the piano in “No place like home” to name one. How would you define “Something for everybody” and how did you work on the sounds for the album?

Gerry [...]

Liars @ Shepherds Bush Empire

Liars come back to London with a one off show to seduce us with their new universe Sisterworld. New things are introduced to the audience tonight: to start with, the trio is not a trio anymore. Or better, it is still a trio but it evolved with the addition of an extra guitar and base plus more keyboards.

fun. @ O2 Islington Academy

London, 26th May

The NY trio fun. returns to London for an amazing show at the O2 Islington Academy. As soon as I walk in I am overwhelmed by the excitement that fills the air. These guys have yet to release the debut album but they have already conquered a hard core group of fans.

They have been compared to the likes of Beach Boys but I would also add Architecture In Helsinki as a comparison: not only for the type of [...]

Sleepy Sun – Fever

In a warm mid-spring afternoon I find myself listening to Fever, the second new album by Sleepy Sun, a California band from many Californias. They hail from the rolling oak and sage hills of Sierra Gold Country, The San Francisco Peninsula, where Kesey raged and the Dead were once Warlocks, and the forever-sunshine climes of the Southland. They came together – young and garage strutting in the coastal Northern California crucible of Santa Cruz. And there they birthed the Sleepy [...]

Dizzee Rascal Scores N.1 With Dirtee Disco

Dizzee Rascal has scored his fourth UK Number One hit with one-off single ‘Dirtee Disco‘.

The rapper shot straight to the summit knocking last week’s chart topper B.o.B into second place with ‘Nothin’ On You’.

The star previously went to Number One with ‘Holiday’, ‘Bonkers’ and ‘Dance Wiv Me’ which were all lifted from his 2009 album ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’.

Eminem‘s new single ‘Not Afraid’, the first from from his forthcoming album ‘Recovery’ is also in at Number Five.

Elsewhere Lady GaGa is in [...]

Thomas White: the enfant terrible of music…

The enfant terrible of music talks about music and future projects…
AAAmusic: How’s the tour going? What’s the feedback you’re getting on the album so far?
Thomas White: Touring’s always a blast when you’re playing with a band this capable. Andrew Mitchell of The Hazey Janes is possibly the most versatile, able, unshowy guitarist I’ve ever come across. Damo Waters is similarly unassuming, but a monster behind the kit. Recent additions Max Erle and Kit Ashton have proven themselves indispensible within the [...]

Roger Waters Brings The Wall To Europe

Roger Waters has announced today (May 27th) the European tour dates to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the masterpiece The Wall.

The man, the genius, the legend, the one who has spoken to more than one generation with Pink Floyd is an extremely calm and relaxed man, very opinionated and passionate about politics and society.

Waters presents to a selected audience of media from all over Europe his tour, how he got the idea and why The Wall is still an up-to-date [...]

Jaguar Love @ Hoxton Bar & Kitchen

London, May 24th

If I could describe Jaguar Love‘s performance in a sentence, I would say ‘rock music version of Where the Wild Things Are. When lead singer Johnny Whitney took the microphone, he called everyone forward like a pervert inviting a young girl to his car. It was a good move, as the venue was quite empty, and this created a much better (and more appropriate) atmosphere.

The band consisted of a drummer, a guitarist and a mad singer. They had [...]
