You would find this Michigan producer Shigeto on your CD shelf next to Mount Kimbie, in my opinion. It’s really minimalistic electronic music, with a slight hint of jazz. ‘Detroit Part 1’ would be a great song to chill to, and great as background music if you were hosting a party at your house. I personally prefer my electronic music to generally have some vocals dropped in occasionally as it helps to give the track somewhere to go, somewhere to drive towards. But in any case, this is a really nice, chilled-out track. The beat doesn’t kick in until about 20 seconds in, so there’s a bit of time to relax into it. The track also has a kind of slight panning effect which is really cool. At the end of the song, there’s a rather strange part, seemingly an afterthought, as it doesn’t really have anything in common with the previous bit. I’m not quite sure what its purpose is, but I’ll go with it.
